The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants UK increased their passing percentage from 40% to 50% from June 2009 exams onwards.
They changed the pattern of the paper to include some multiple choice questions to test candidate’s knowledge.
But the Questions still remains unanswered. Is it valid to increase the passing marks percentage when a lot of candidate’s from across the world are enrolling into the ACCA after a drastic hike in University Fees for proper undergraduate and post graduate Degree Program.
Although ACCA is increasing its fee with the passage of time but still ACCA remains one of the most economical professional degrees currently available to young aspiring students.
Well, to be honest I personally think 40% Passing Percentage is enough as the Exams set by ACCA Examiners are really tough to attempt. They include some questions within the exams that disrupt Candidate’s concentration and makes him lose a lot of time estimating the right answer.
ACCA administration should ponder at the rapid globalization. They announced are going to revive their ACCA Course content from 2011 Onwards. Last Time when ACCA updated their course content according to employer’s expectation was in 2007. Since then ACCA has evolved and a lot of changes have been made to the format of the Exam Paper, examinable questions and theory.
ACCA must understand that to test Candidate’s Knowledge they must keep their Passing Percentage to 40% but should start a grading system like University Awards GPA (Grade Points Average) and CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average). GPA is mentioned on the degrees issued by a university.
Grading system will help employers and student but I do not think declaring a student who has achieved 50% marks equivalent to a student achieving 96% marks is just.
A persons who achieves 49% marks is equal to 50% marks holder then why are they regarding him as a fail candidate when a Candidate with Just One Percent More Marks is equal to student Achieving 100% marks.
I think ACCA should revisit their policy to attract more students otherwise the day is no far when students will quit ACCA due to their strange Exam Scripts Marking System.
