Jailbreaking is a process that allows Apple Gadgets like iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch to run third party applications.
A User needs to be vigilant in his approach as Jailbreaking the Apple Gadgets may void the Warranty issued by Apple for their products.
However users may restore the Device to iTunes if they want to undo the Jailbreak and backup previous settings in the Apple Gadgets to retain the warranty.
After an Apple Gadgets is Jail broken then it may run third party Applications from the App store that are unavailable in the Official Apple Gadgets.
Jail Break means unlocking the Operating System of the Apple Gadgets and allowing User access to the Root Directory of the Gadget.
If a User wants to integrate the features of iOS 4 in iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2G then here is the tutorial.
Note:-
Be Careful in your approach. Only attempt guidelines within this tutorial if you have sound knowledge of the process otherwise your Device may be damaged. It is suggested not to Jailbreak the Apple Gadgets so that the Security of the Gadget remains intact.
First a User requires an iPhone 3G or an iPod Touch 2G. The next requirement is the redsnOw jailbreak software.
The Software can be downloaded Here.
Please note if Apple Device is running iOS 3.X then it has to be upgraded to version 4.0 before proceeding.
It is advised for the Users to Visit the iTunes Store and check for the latest updates regarding the Device in possession.
Steps to Jail Break iPhone 3G or iPod Touch 2G For Enabling Multi Tasking
1- Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
2- Start iTunes and sync iPhone or iPod touch with your Personal Computer so that it backs-up all valuable data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.
3- Start the Snow Breeze Jailbreak Software.
4- When redsn0w is started, it asks for the path towards iOS 4 IPSW file. If iOS 4 is already installed on the device, the path towards iPSW file is ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/ and is named something like iPhone1,2_4.0 for the iPhone and iPod2,1_4.0 for the iPod Touch.
5- If iPod Touch is used red snow will ask whether the newest version that starts with MC 3 is being Jail broken.
6- After this step RedsnOw displays a list of features that could be installed. One can make a choice between installation of Cydia (functions like an unwalled version of the App Store), Verbose boot (which gives detail of what’s going on while your device boots), Custom boot logo, and Custom recovery logo.
7- Users have the option to enable beneficial features like multitasking, home screen wallpapers, and the battery percentage indicator.
8- Connect Apple Gadget to Mac and switch it off by holding down the lock button until a red slider emerges, which you should then slide. You’ll need to put your device into Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. Hold down the lock button for 3 seconds
9- Without releasing the lock button, hold down the home button for 10 seconds
10- Without releasing the home button, let go of the lock button and continue holding the home button for 30 seconds, though redsn0w should start doing its thing before the 30 seconds are up.
11- Observe the Scenario when redsn0w jailbreaks your device and enables all the features that Apple left out.
12- Battery percentage indicator can be enabled by accessing Settings -> General -> Usage and turning it on.
