iPhone 4 Losing Market Share to Android

The Mobile OS (operating system) Android Manufactured by the Internet Giant Google seems to be growing in terms of Market Share at least in the US.

With the Growth in the Number of Smart Phone User’s Android Platform for Smart Phones has gained pace in making new Customers.

When it comes to Popular Smart Phone Manufacturers one can not Forget Apple .Inc which manufactures the iPhone and has recently released their iPhone 4 in summer 2010.

Whenever a New Model of any of the products manufactured by Apple  is released the Viewers may expect Apple to rise up in its Market Share but statistics Published at Com Score describe a different scenario.

The Recent Study Conducted by Com Score reveals the Following status of Smart Phone Platforms Market Share

Top Smartphone Platforms
3 Month Avg. Ending Jul. 2010 vs. 3 Month Avg. Ending Apr. 2010
Total U.S. Smartphone Subscribers Ages 13+
Source: comScore MobiLens
Share (%) of Smartphone Subscribers
Apr-10 Jul-10 Point Change
Total Smartphone Subscribers 100.0% 100.0% N/A
RIM 41.1% 39.3% -1.8
Apple 25.1% 23.8% -1.3
Google 12.0% 17.0% 5.0
Microsoft 14.0% 11.8% -2.2
Palm 4.9% 4.9% 0.0

The above statisitics depict that Android is leading in terms of Market Share for the last Couple of Months. Not Only Apple but the Market Share of Microsoft and RIM has also dropped back.

The Web Critics are citing that the Exclusive Contract with the AT & T Carrier in the US may be the possible reason for the sudden drop in Market Share of the iPhone 4. There are a lot of US Citizens who are using other Mobile Carriers which means that the Android Platform has more Number of Customers to Target when compared to Apple iPhone.

According to my Personal View there are also Other reasons despite the Contract with AT & T that is stimulating User’s Interest towards Android Gadgets.

A Few Months ago we heard that Apple Inc have themselves acknowledged a Major Bug in their iPhone 4.  The Bug was related to the reception of Signals when we hold the Gadget at a certain angle. This bug was indeed embarrassing and even more for an established Smart Phone Manufacturer like Apple.

This issue really disaappoointed the Potential User’s of iPhone 4 as they had trust in the quality of Products manufactured by Apple but it proved wrong with the iPhone 4.

Although iPhone 4 is a Good Gadget but one should not Give importance to Devices that have Bugs even in the preliminary stage of their Release and when there are better Devices available in the Market for a nominal price. That is more accurate reason for the Drop in Market Share for the iPhone 4.

Indeed, Android platfrom is becoming more and more popular nowadays. It’s all due to its openness. Besides, there have been announced a lot of tablets on Android to launch in Q4 2010 or in early 2011. But I think BlackBerry, Symbian and iPhone won’t be hurt too much because of this. Each OS has its own advantages, so the competition is a good thing.
